The Century Performers Concert Series

by Sean Stone-Ashe

I’ve had the pleasure of performing in many concerts through Century Fine Arts over my nearly eight years with the school. These performances have included a solo recital, countless student performances, local events, community outreach, and the Century Performers concert series.

The Century Performers concert series is a special event in which several of the teachers at CFA come together to perform a recital, providing high-quality music and highlighting the strength of the music faculty at the school. These performances are always free and open to the public, providing a convenient opportunity for students to hear their teachers perform, while opening the doors to members of the public to enjoy some terrific tunes!

In the last year, there has been a concerted effort to not only increase the frequency of these events, but also to step up the overall production quality. Held in the ensemble room at CFA, the space feels totally transformed from a utilitarian practice space to an intimate performance venue. Lush curtains and tables arranged for small groups create the feeling of a vintage jazz club, and provide a hospitable locale for a musical gathering.

At the most recent Century Performers concert on April 6th, 2025, I had the opportunity to perform a few classical guitar pieces from Argentina, Mexico, and England. There was also an outstanding variety of performances given by CFA teachers Andrew, J’Neise, Ermelinda, and CFA Artistic Director Leonard. A particularly memorable performance for me was the performance of guitarist Andrew, who performed a few cello and guitar duets with his sister. Of course, I am always eager to hear some fantastic guitar music!

The Century Performers concert series happens approximately once a month (typically on Sunday afternoon), and the information and dates are shared through CFA’s website and social media. These performances are an outstanding opportunity for members of the Fort Bend community, and especially students at CFA to hear an engaging and diverse program of music from their favorite CFA faculty. I highly recommend coming out to hear a bit of inspiring music from the musicians and artists who make Century Fine Arts a special place!

If the basic time-only movement is a masterpiece, then "complications"—any function beyond telling the hours, minutes, and seconds—are the pinnacle of horological ambition.
