Katelynn Watson

Katelynn Watson /  Piano and Voice

Availability: Sunday - Friday

Katelynn is a bubbly and energetic soprano from Caldwell, Texas.  She is familiar with a wide array of musical genres from indie to country, but her favorites are jazz, R&B, and musical theater.  Although she has been performing vocally since she was six years old, her piano journey began in high school when she joined her church’s praise band and wanted to play the synthesizer.  For over a year, she has been a scholarship singer at Moody Methodist Church in Galveston, under the direction of Tracy Shirk.  She also volunteers in the handbell choir and youth choir there.  When she isn’t performing, Katelynn likes to kayak, paint, and rock climb.

Katelynn is pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree (Music Education & Vocal Performance) with Elective Studies in Orchestral Conducting from the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston where she is also working towards a psychology minor.  In her three years as a music student, Katelynn has served as soprano section leader and student director for the internationally-recognized UH Concert Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Betsy Cook Weber.  Katelynn has been one of few students to participate in events supporting a prospective musical theater program at the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts.

A recipient of the Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers, Katelynn believes that learning should be fun and engaging, and she hopes to encourage confidence and an appreciation for all types of music in her students.
